WVS Update
You may have noticed that almost all of our posts for the month of 19 May to 15 June were focussed on the PAB Black Box. There’s a reason for that. The government investment in the Dundas set aside funds to be used to renovate the PAB, but what we were short of was time: we had a window of six weeks between the closing of the Ringplay Season and the beginning of work for Shakespeare in Paradise to get that renovation done.
So Brian’s team stopped what they were doing in the main theatre to concentrate on getting the Black Box stripped, fixed, and up and running again.
But that doesn’t mean that all the work stopped in the WVS. A lot of the visible work was paused, this is true. The last thing we did was fix the facade, partly to let people know that work is ongoing there, as the Black Box is invisible from the road.
But here’s the big big news.
Our new AC system is starting to arrive.
The first thing that was done, as we told you, was to take out the old system. That was accomplished back in May when first the ductwork, and then the old condensers, were removed.
Where the old Winston V. Saunders a/c condensers used to be … a thing of the past
The next thing was that the ductwork for the new system arrived, sometime early in June. More recently, too, the air handlers have also landed in Nassau.
So most nights for the past two weeks or so, workers from Coastal Air Conditioning have been at the WVS, installing the new ductwork. They’re working in the evenings and nights because, well, it’s cooler that way. I’ll post some photos when I get them.
The only thing left to come are the actual AC units. They are scheduled to land in Nassau in August.
The air conditioning is no longer a dream! It’s reality waiting to happen!
Once it’s in, Brian’s team will move back into the theatre to continue with the upgrades that patrons will see when we reopen—and the theatre will be one BIG step closer to opening!!
