Thank you for your support!
In March 2020, the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts was closed under Emergency Orders. Over the next eighteen months, it remained a prohibited business, and was not given permission to open until late summer 2021. During that time, the air conditioning system for the 330-seat Winston V. Saunders theatre seized up. Installed in the early 1980s, all units died from inactivity. The technician we consulted indicated that the units could not be repaired and must be replaced. Initial estimates placed this in the neighbourhood of $150,000. Since then, costs have gone up to in excess of $400,000.
Thankfully, in February 2025, the Bahamas government stepped in with a capital investment of $340,000!
Renovations are currently ongoing.
The Dundas is entirely self-supporting. Till this year, it received no regular contributions from the Bahamian government or from corporate Bahamas. The primary source of revenue is the Winston V. Saunders Theatre. Even with the recent injection of capital, the theatre has over $200,000 in accumulated bills since the pandemic that have to be cleared, so your support continues to be welcome!
