The Prop Cage

I mentioned in an earlier post that we need a way to keep our props secure, organized, and undamaged. (I can’t tell you how many times we’ve rented out the theatre and come back to find things out to use as props without our knowledge or permission—like the Green Room coffee maker, or Green Room furniture, or audience seats.) Not entirely our patrons’ fault. Everything was jumbled together. We needed a way to demarcate props from regular furniture. We also need a way to organize, store and catalogue our props because they are a source of revenue that can help keep the doors open. Same with costumes.

People who’ve known me for a while now I’ve been dreaming about a prop cage that can be locked up and accessed once agreements have been reached about what can be used, how, and for how long.

Well, we got it!! As we configured the auditorium and the backstage, we got our prop cage.

It’s going to have shelves for organizing our inventory, places to hang costumes, and space to store furniture.

And locks.

Here it is.
